Saw in local travel magazine that the Gila Cliff Dwellings are only 100 miles away and that you can go in them. Today we went up there. Nice ride but took almost 3 hours.
The park was great. You hike about 1/2 mile straight up and then you walk in the dwellings. In some cases you climb a ladder and look in, in others you walk in. The wood in structures is original and the ceilings were smoked over when used 500-1000 years ago. They were impressive. In the hike up you go thru area that was burned in the massive New Mexico fire last month.
Went back to Deming and spent the night.
